Travelogue - Madrid, Spain

I first started this blog as a way to slowly pen down on my exchange memories and for it to serve as a platform for me to look back on photos. I have too many on Facebook. Its much easier to look through a few that represent what the city is to me. While I'm struggling to find time to continuously pen down my thoughts because of my increasing work load, when I do find time to do so, its like taking a little trip down memory lane. It instils a yearning so strong. Day after day, I wished that I had the resources or the opportunities to simply book an air ticket to see more of the world. But till that day comes (if ever) I shall settle for my sporadic trips down memory lane.

My first stop in Spain was to the capital city of Madrid. I must say that I was expecting more from Madrid. Shopping wise, its lovely. But I'm not much of a shopper.

Maybe we didn't plan our stay in Madrid properly, or maybe the city was not for me. Nonetheless, there were places that had their appeal. Photo below was taken while randomly strolling around the city.

Foodwise, we hunted down Tapas joints and churros. Take your time wandering around, delve into little alley ways and you might be surprised.

One of the attractions I enjoyed in Madrid, was Santiago Bernabeu - home to football club Real Madrid. It was my first ever stadium tour despite having previously watched matches at The Emirates and Old Trafford. I was in awe by the facilities and the size of the pitch (when standing on it).

I was really impressed by how well everything was organised. The signs were easy to follow, and there were explanations everywhere.
Look at how massive the stadium is when standing at the top. Imagine what it must feel like to play in front of a crowd that size every week. Wow.

My happy feet on the well maintained pitch.
Stadium seats up close!
Ozil's boots! He's no longer at Real Madrid, but he's in Arsenal. (This is random)

Another place in Madrid I liked was the royal palace. Do note that you have to go early to queue for tickets because the queues are massive! I spent about 3 hours roaming the hallways of this palace and playing pretend - transporting myself back into Spain's royal history. Unfortunately, photography is not allowed inside the palace, so the only shots I have are of the facade.

This is a peacock that was roaming around the backyard of the palace. I believe it must be royal, as it was proudly strutting its stuff for the tourists who were busy snapping photos.

And that concludes my trip to Madrid. If you have any suggestions on where to visit, drop a comment. I'm hoping to head back to Europe one day.
More on Spain coming up :)
