SG Escapades - Kampong Lorong Buangkok

On a self-imposed travel ban because I should be saving money to go to Europe - but I've since looked at air tickets twice in the past 2 weeks. In an attempt to fight the itch to travel, I decided to embark on a journey to explore places in Singapore that I've never been to.

First up on the list, Singapore's last kampung at Lorong Buangkok!

Headed to the kampong in the late afternoon. The nearest MRT is Serangoon - got picked up by my friend from there! A short drive later and we were back in the past.

Although the plot of land is small, it's a different sight. Once you step in, the hustle and bustle of city life seems to fade away as you go about exploring. The houses there are colourful and reminiscent of a time gone by. Our only disappointment was that we didn't get to see any wild chickens.

No matter how hard you try to pretend that you are in the past, the present has a way of sneaking up on you. At certain spots when you look up, looming HDB flats can be seen in the distance.

And should you look up, you also get to see an uncommon sight in Singapore - electric cables!

We spent about an hour roaming around and exploring before we got too hot and hungry.  Another thing I love about the houses is the huge expanse of space that they have. The trip was definite food for thought about how far Singapore has come and a reminder that our city is so diverse.
