Second day of my travels in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. We found ourselves waking up to a bright, sunny day. Kaohsiung is much more humid as compared to Taipei! We decided to spend the day exploring Lotus Lake, and boy was the lake huge.
We took a train to the high-speed rail station (Zuoying), and walked the rest of the way. Although it was in the morning, the sun's heat was intense. We ended up buying a huge watermelon to quench our thirst along the way.
We came across some interesting sights on our way to the lake. Unfortunately the temple I came across was off limits at the moment due to renovations of some sort. So I snapped some photos, through the fence.
Lotus Lake is easily spotted because of the towering statues of deities and pagodas that surround it. The bright sun made all the photos turn out even nicer! I believe that this lake would look gorgeous at night, with everything all lit up.
We started off at a small corner of the lake. You can see the perimeter of the lake. We didn't manage to cover the whole lake because the sun was too merciless, and the heat too insane. But we did cover 3/4 of it!
After a 15 minute or so walk, we finally reached the first deity! Thankfully the pagodas were really breezy - thus offering us a refreshing respite for the heat.
The next walkway!
And more photos of the surrounding sights of the lake. I found the lake a really peaceful place to just take your time, and wander around. Exploring the little pagodas and temples that they have around the lake. I wonder if one is allowed to fish in the lake.
After the lake, we decided to head on to Cijin Island to catch the sunset and hunt down some seafood for dinner! We had to take a ferry for this and of course, a lovely view awaited us.
Sights on the way to the ferry terminal. Sort of reminded me of Venice.
Once we alighted on the island, we immediately went in hunt of the beach. After all, there's nothing more romantic than watching the sunset at the beach right?
The beach was not very crowded, and we went to soak our feet in the cool water. There were many interesting sights at the beach! Wish I had brought swimwear along so that I could take a quick dip in the sea.
Once night settled in, off we went, hunting for dinner. Most places along the street sell seafood and they have the items out on display. So it's really up to you to be able to identify the best prices, and the freshness of the seafood. Here's some of the items that we ordered! Dinner that night was oh so scumptious. I love seafood :)
After dinner we bought some bubble tea (of course), and headed off back to our hotel, with full bellies and content smiles on our faces. Another day in Taiwan well spent!
