Travelogue - Mt Bromo, Indonesia

It has just dawned upon me on how many backdated trips I have! I heard about Mt. Bromo from a friend the the photos were out of this world. So I decided to take a trip there to satisfy my curiosity about the place. 

The journey there started with a flight to Surabaya before our driver picked us up at the airport. From there.. it was a 4-5 hour drive to Mt. Bromo. 

We definitely weren't expected it to be that cold when we got there.. but temperatures dropped to single digit coldness at night. Had dinner and an early night as we had to get up at 3am to drive up to catch the sunrise.

By the time we reached the top of the lookout point it was filled with people who had gotten there even earlier to get a good spot. So we settled for a spot that allowed us to sit and huddle (it was really really cold). Good thing we brought some snacks and heatpacks with us.  The moment the sun peaked through, there were gasps of wonder and awe. Alas, my photos are all filled with human heads.

Decided to make the best out of my situation and capture some silhouette shots.
Once the sun rose, we made our way down to begin our trek up Mt. Bromo. 

We decided that we were not going to take any of the horses but to instead make our own way up. Our guide said it was approximately 5km.. it was only halfway through that I realised it was 5km uphill.

We made our way up and wandered a little along the crater before heading down. After that our driver drove us around to take some photos and we headed back to our accommodation to warm up and have some breakfast. 

Isn't it simply astounding.
