Travelogue - Florence, Italy

If you haven't guessed by now, it's Italy time. Florence is impossible to not fall in love with. The city is so rich in the renaissance era. The city is scattered with various museums each specialising in a certain area. The Uffizi Gallery is one of the oldest Museums in Florence and is home to some of the most astounding pieces of art. I believe I took more than 3 hours to cover this whole museum.

Like most cities in Italy, Florence also has its own majestic cathedral. As expected, the inside is stunning. To quote loosely "same same but different". There are of course other museums and smaller cathedrals that are worth a visit depending on your interest.

Florence is also home to many David statues. Hunt them down if you must! With the most famous one located in the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze (If my memory serves).

A climb to Piazza Michelangelo is so worth your time because it offers a stunning view of the city. But be wary of pickpockets if you venture there at night. I went in the early morning when it was still empty, and got to bask in the peace and serenity of the place. I also had the advantage of taking my time to soak in the mesmerising view.

The best memory I had of Florence was watching the sunset along the Arno river. The sky was split into different colours making the whole experience surreal. I was content to simply lean against a bridge and watch this miracle of nature. The sunset I saw definitely goes on my top 5 sunsets/sunrises. To add to the experience, there were buskers behind us serenading us with slow songs. They say every sunset is like no other, it is no wonder Florence is said to be the birthplace of the renaissance. With that kind of sunset to view every day, it's easy to get inspired.

Stroll along the streets of Florence at night, and you'll encounter busker after busker, each with a different act. Many a times I was tempted to part with the loose change in my pocket. We encountered buskers performing magic tricks, buskers singing with their melodic voices, and others showcasing various cultural performance.

Florence though small, is a must visit place when in Italy. In fact, Dan Brown's latest book takes place in the city of Florence.
